IDME Program

Infant Development Movement Education

The best gifts we can give to an infant are a sense of physical and emotional well-being, comfort and bonding, pleasure to be, curiosity, confidence, the ability to relate to others, and organization and ability to resolve conflicts. These abilities are greatly influenced by the child’s first experiences through contact and movement, the first ways to know herself/himself.

The first year of life is crucial in the development of the child and the adult person which she/he will become. During this time, the baby develops patterns of movement, perception, and organization of information from which it develops relationships with herself/himself, with others, and with the world. The neurological organization is greatly influenced by the appearance and integration of the child’s movement patterns. Facilitating development during this period can greatly enhance a child’s physical, emotional, and intellectual abilities.

Infant Development Movement Education Program

(IDME)

This program proposes a highly sophisticated and detailed approach to observing and facilitating normal movement patterns in childhood. The approach incorporates the child’s curiosity and its interest and individuality in the relationship with the educator. It is child centered and child oriented, not task oriented.

The IDME Program trains us in the recognition of early patterns and effective and respectful interaction, facilitating paths that have a positive effect on the child’s development. The purpose is to help establish the foundations that allow us to operate with ease, strength, agility and adaptability, avoiding restrictive movement patterns that inhibit the development of one’s full potential. It also embraces the family environment, interactively including it in the educational process.

Students will learn to:

  • Observe how the development of normal movement happens in childhood.
  • Identify and analyze normal movement patterns.
  • Facilitate the development of normal movement patterns.
  • Facilitate sensory perception in relation to movement.
  • Educate caregivers on how to facilitate the normal development of their babies.
  • Identify and analyze basic difficulties in movement and facilitate the normal development of movement.
  • Recognize problems in babies at risk of developing physical, learning, and emotional limitations, and that require referral to other specialists.
